An interesting video suggesting a plant-based diet may be beneficial in the treatment of kidney disease:

I have had a basically vegetarian diet since childhood and unfortunately it didn't stop me developing kidney disease but it may well be a factor in maintaining a steady level of kidney function loss since diagnosis 7 years ago.

  1. Among the thousands of articles I have found online regarding kidney disease, cures, alternative treatments and so forth, your blog for me, stands as a litmus test to sift through the information and point me in the direction of what works, what doesn't and how to live with this disease. I have read through all your articles and would like to thank you for taking the time to provide a non-medical, personal view of your life and how you are coping with this affliction. I too have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease with hypertension and latest creatinine is at 2.0. Ever since this began for me I have been scouring the internet for cures and treatment options but have come to realize this is one of those things you that is here to stay and it doesn't mean your life is over. It just means your lifestyle will need to change and your perspective changes from that of a healthy person viewing a sickly person to that of becoming one of the sick and realizing that view was just too narrow. Even recently, I have had my BP climb and felt my heart pounding against my chest, all the while going through the internet and listing symptoms and problems like arrhythmia to try and understand why this is happening to me. In the end, its just one of those things you have to deal with. Thank you again for being a guide to showing me where my life was and is currently going and hope you continue to post how things are going with you. Stealing a line from a cancer motto: I may have CKD, but CKD doesn't have me!

  2. I was wondering if your kidney disease was caused by high blood pressure medication or other long term use of medications?

    1. The cause of the kidney damage is unknown. I don't think it was caused by high blood pressure as when the first symptoms were detected (protein in urine) my blood pressure was normal.
